Description

Join us for our first morning online reading group as we discuss the novel, Gora, written by Rabindranath Tagore. Published in 1907, the story is set in Bengal in the last quarter of the 19th century as the British colonial culture waned and Indian intellectualism reclaimed its place in Bengali society. The basic plot concerns the life of Gora, a young man wrestling with themes of Hindu nationalism, the religious hierarchy of his day, and love between different social communities. This book has been a favorite amongst readers in the Marg Network community for many years. This group’s host, Denise, is a friend of Marg Network and a longtime Alongsider in the Hindu diaspora.

Our MARG Network reading groups have been popular amongst our community.  The group size will be limited to twelve participants plus the discussion host.

Does not include the book; please purchase the book separately. Please note that this book group will meet twice to discuss the book. Once to discuss the first half of the book, and the second time to discuss the entirety of the book. This book has been in print for many years; your copy may have a different cover image.

First Meeting: Tuesday, September 15th
Second Meeting: Tuesday, October 13th
Meeting Day and Time:  11am EST/10am CST/8am PST (6 PM Nairobi time) Hosted by Denise
